American Idol Looks At Brad Paisley

He would be its first ever judge from country music.

American Idol Looks At Brad Paisley

If the latest American Idol judging rumor is to be believed, the Fox juggernaut might be thinking about replacing rock legend Steven Tyler with … earnest country star Brad Paisley? Really?

Deadline Hollywood reports that Paisley is being “seriously considered” for the empty chair – the thinking apparently being that it’s time to finally bring a country-oriented judge to the show, considering the success of Carrie Underwood and the promising career start for Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery. And while no one at Fox would ever admit this, the presence of Blake Shelton on The Voice has to be a factor also.

The Deadline report also claims, more ominously, that Idol deep thinkers are considering possibly going with a four-judge panel again, as was seen in Seasons 8 and 9. Let’s hope saner thoughts eventually prevail.

Is there much behind this rumor? Paisley is in the prime of his career in a way no previous Idol judge has been, so the demands on his time might be more than he can swing. But he’s displayed some likability in his major television work to this point, hosting the CMA Awards opposite Underwood the last several years. And Paisley would give the loyal country audience a reason to check out Idol in those seasons when there are no future Nashville stars in the mix.

What are your thoughts on Brad Paisley (or perhaps someone else from the country world) joining Idol?

Brad Paisley could be a great candidate for American Idol. He has an impressive resume with 10 consecutive hit songs. There’s no doubt that he knows what’s going down in the music industry. He could make a dynamite team with Mimi and Randy Jackson. I’m happy being able to watch my primetime shows commercial free using my Auto Hop feature. This is an awesome feature my coworker at Dish showed me, which automatically fast forward commercials with the touch of a button. This only works on PrimeTime Anytime shows a day after they’ve recorded which will offer a life changing experience. Most of us using a DVR already do this; the Hopper’s Auto Hop feature does it without effort. Now I won’t wear my remote batteries like before having to fast forward every ten minutes.
