Is AGT Contestant a Fraud?
America's Got Talent's Tim Poe may have fabricated injured vet story
Country music singer Tim Poe had America’s Got Talent judges and viewers in tears this week with his heartfelt version of “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and his back story.
Tim told the audience that he is an Afghanistan war veteran who suffered a broken back and brain damage by a rocket-propelled grenade. But there are now reports surfacing that Poe may have made the story up.
“Sgt. Poe’s official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports,” Rickey.org reported the Minnesota National Guard as saying.
The Associated Press has also done some reporting on the story, speaking with a Minnesota National Guard spokesman. “We did not find something to substantiate what he said,” Lt. Col. Kevin Olson said. He also said Poe did not receive the Purple Heart, which is bestowed upon injured to soldiers injured in combat.
NBC has not commented on the story.
What do you think of these allegations? Would someone actually lie about something that could be so easily proven false? On national television even.
