We like to poke fun at Brooke Burke Charvet here, but this is nothing to kid about: the Dancing with the Stars co-host has announced she has cancer of the thyroid.
The 41-year-old model and Season 7 DWTS winner revealed the diagnosis Thursday on a video posted to YouTube and to her blog. She had said something in the summer about having a nodule on her thyroid, and the subsequent biopsy showed she had cancer. “I need to have thyroid surgery and have a thyroidectomy, which means that I’m going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck. And I don’t get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share it, because it’s going to be pretty much dead center,” she said in the video.
Thyroid cancer is considered very treatable at this stage, and Burke Charvet sounded serious but positive in the three-minute video: “I’m just going to make a positive out of this negative thing. I’m going to be a really good patient and I am going to do everything that I need to do … my doctor did tell me that this is a ‘happily ever after’ kind of thing.” She did not mention when the surgery would take place, though given the length of time between the discovery of the nodule and the diagnosis, it sounds like this might be something that can wait till after the current DWTS season.
We wish her luck, because seriously: a world where we can’t post snark about Brooke’s loopy interviewing style is not worth living in!
