Recap: Maksim Lashes out at Len Goodman

Recap: Maksim Lashes out at Len Goodman

Drama hits the ballroom on last night’s episode of Dancing with the Stars. Maksim Chmerkovskiys went off on Len Goodman.

The disagreement happened when Len Goodman pointed out that he had never lost faith in Hope Solo, but went on to say that part of her poor performance in his view was due to the boots she was wearing. Len also said that he thought this was her worst dance to date in the competition. Maksim began to rile up the crowd when they booed Len for his comment. Len looked at Max and said,

“Part of this is your fault”

Max retorted that as long as the audience liked their journey, which was all that mattered. When Len began to talk about being in the business for 50 years Max snapped,

“Well then maybe it’s time to go”

Max claimed the judges were disrespectful to his partner Hope Solo. An earlier package showed Max telling Hope that he had lost faith in her, when she called him on it, he back tracked. Len’s comment about not losing faith was clearly a sign to Max that he didn’t like the way Max treats Hope in practice. The last three weeks, Hope and Max practice sessions showed them arguing and Max has been filmed saying his fair share of disrespectful things to Hope.

After the show ended, Max defended most of his comments telling reporters,

“She is improving, that is the point. I’m extremely proud of her. This is the first time she came out and she did exactly what she planned and there was no stress and no tension and it was a great performance. And I really liked dancing with her tonight. And to get comments that was the opposite of what it was, it wasn’t even upsetting, it was more like, ‘I have had enough!’ You have an opinion. I also have an opinion…The judges will say, ‘Hey, this is show business, this is supposed to be fun’. Well, I had fun tonight.”

One thing Max does regret from the night is his comments that some of the other professionals might have taken as an insult. After Hope and Max received their scores, co-host Brooke Burke Charvet asked Max for his comments. A fiery and somewhat arrogant sounding Max said,

“With all due respect, this is my show, I helped make it what it is”.

Freeze frame on the three deadpan faces of pro’s Cheryl Burke, Derek Hough and Kym Johnson and one gets the feeling they just might take exception to that comment. After the show Max told reporters that he didn’t mean to imply that it was solely his show and that he was the star.

But for Max the only opinion that really matters is that of his mothers who sent him a supportive text after the show. Max was so proud of it he told reporters and then tweeted about his mothers support.

In a season where the scoring has been noticeably higher even for poor dancers, Derek Hough commented “Sometimes you do take things personally. I did that one time with Shannon Elizabeth. I went off. And I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t ever do that again!’ I felt like the judges have been incredibly generous this season so I was surprised.” Interesting to note, when Derek went off on judges several years ago, Max attributed it to Derek’s youth. Max believes that his comments tonight reflect his integrity “I pride myself on the fact that I’ve never changed. I think I got smarter, but the integrity is still there. I’m very clear in what I stand for.” Max has not been Hope Solo’s champion during rehearsals as shown in several packages, but tonight he went all White Night for her.

Derek is the favorite of all the judges and they are scoring based on him, not Ricki. She is NOT the better dancer but with all of his movements you don’t see that she is not doing that much. Judges have been way off on their scores this year. They cry about who went home, when it is their fault. No way did Nancy Grace deserve a 9! Like you said, score low in the beginning and then scores should also be based on who is most improved. Every year Derek gets an experienced dancer and Tony always got squat. This year he gets a decent partner and because of one bad night she is gone. They do not like Mark, never have, that is why he is gone, they were not going to give his partner good scores no matter what.

Max is a total, classless, dis-respectful, immature, and arrogant individual! As usual, Len took the high road. (Max, you should take a few lessons from Len, although you’ll never get it! There’s an old expression Max which pertains to you., “Put a beggar on horseback, & he’ll ride it to death.”

    Get a life!!!

As Max said, just as the judges have a right to their opinion, so does he. I think people took his comments way out of context. He later clarified that he didn’t mean the show was all about him, but it’s true he is one of the biggest stars of the show and has been there from the beginning and helped boost it’s ratings. I think his comments came from a place of frustration. The judges comments and scoring are often so random and i can’t imagine how hard it can be on the pro’s to try and take their criticisms in a constructive way week after week and still have the strength to boost up their partners all while trying to manage their own disappointment and feelings of failure. People should give him a break. the Pros are under some intense pressure and Max himself is a very passion and outspoke guy who knows the judges don’t care for him. He’s only human and is bound to lt his frustration come out in words he didn’t quiet mean. As for implying that he deserves the hate because hes mean to Hope, she’s nothing but supportive of him and obviously knows not to take his words of frustration personally. I’d be annoyed to if i had to read articles like this twisting my words around. He clearly said he was the only one left who had faith in her, but out of frustration ended with saying he was starting to lose some of that faith, however this article says “An earlier package showed Max telling Hope that he had lost faith in her” when he didn’t say that at all. Cant imagine why he’s so frustrated and feels vilified all the time, when people are just looking for a reason to jump all over him.
