Honey Boo Boo On Anderson Cooper

Mama and Alana among guests on Season 2 premiere

Honey Boo Boo On Anderson Cooper

Honey Boo Boo Child and Mama stopped by Anderson Cooper Live today for the premiere of the newsman’s second season.

Anderson and guest co-host Kristin Chenoweth had a chat with Alana and  June Thompson, now better known as Honey Boo Boo and Mama, about the controversy surrounding their show Here Comes  Honey Boo Boo and how they’re one of the summer’s biggest hits.

Anderson asks Mama how she feels about some of the negative comments she and her family have been getting and she says they’re handling it well.

“In life, there’s going to be criticism, you can’t make everyone happy all the time,”. she said. “We appreciate the people who support us.”

Honey Boo Boo had plenty of her catchphrases rehearsed for Anderson as well. “You better redneckognize!” was how she opened the interview. We’ve got a clip for you below and if you missed the episode on Monday afternoon, check Anderson Cooper’s website to find out how to catch it.

What do you think of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? Love it? Hate it? Think it’s wrong?

Everyone is critisizing this family and June as a mother. I totally disagree. Most women with children would love to have the opportunity to stay home with their children and the haters are just jealous. I applaud June and her family because they are making memories that will last their lifetime and probabaly the next gereneration of the Honey Boo Boo clan. I wish I could have stayed home with my children when they were at that age. I still have 16 year old twins, and we do make memories, just not like this family. What an opportunity they have and with one of the most successful shows on reality tv, there are apparently more people that agree with me. Love them or hate them, they are number 1 in my book! Thanks TLC for this glimpse into these peoples lives, they are more like many Americans than most would like to admit. My rating for this show is ***** stars!!!! Love you guys, you are wonderful people!

Wow. The visceral responses are shocking. As a lifelong “Manhattanite”, I can appreciate the authenticity which drives their life choices. It is obvious that to this family, a reality show is a windfall to get ahead; the cameras film them doing “what they do”. Are they perfect? Heck no! Two kids by 17? The ATROCIOUS diet? But what about a man who loves all his “daughters” or his “first grandchild”. How about recognizing a mother’s pledge to support her teenage daughter because she had a tough road which resulted in bad choices? What about the unconditional love shown to a gay uncle within an environment not normally so accepting? I think their moral compass are much better aligned than other reality shows where people decapitate each other for paychecks to buy the latest Prada shoes and designer handbags. So many “educated” people appear to close minded and unable to appreciate the bigger picture. Would I duplicate their life choices? No. Do I appreciate the positive? Yes. Am I thoroughly entertained by this confident, uncensored 7 year old? Absolutely.
