Project Runway

Project Runway premiered in December of 2004 on Bravo.  The fashion reality show uses a progressive elimination format to decide a final three and then a winner to the show. Judges — Heidi Klum, who also serves as the host, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia are joined by a guest judge or judges every week.

Fashion expert Tim Gunn serves as the designers’ mentor. Gunn is one of the most popular aspects of the show.

The show is known for its fun challenges and dramatic personalities. Designers are often presented with the task of creating fashions made out of unconventional materials like party supplies or car parts.

Project Runway entered its 10th season in the summer of 2012. 16 contestants are competing to join the list of past winners that include Jay McCarrol (Season 1), Chloe Dao (Season 2), Jeffrey Sebelia(Season 3), Christian Siriano (Season 4), Leanne Marshall (Season 5), IrinaShabayeva (Season 6), Seth Aaron Henderson (Season 7), Gretchen Jones (Season 8), and Any Ayoung-Chee (Season 9).

The show currently airs on Lifetime after a five-year deal was struck with network and the show’s producers in 2006. The change in networks lead to a lawsuit filed by NBC Universal, Bravo’s parent company. The suit was settled in 2009.

There have been a couple of spin-offs from the show including Models of The Runway, Project Accessory and Project Runway All Stars. Mondo Guerra, a Season 8 fan favorite, was named the winner of All Stars. Asecond season is currently under way.

All Stars uses a different host, mentor and panel of judges.
