All Stars Episode 4: Girl Groups

One team is cut, revealing the Drag Race All Stars final four

All Stars Episode 4: Girl Groups

This week on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, the queens read each other, formed girl groups that included Kelly Osboune and learned who was going to be among the final four contestants in the penultimate episode next week.

Yes, that’s right, the final four has been revealed in this super-short season of Drag Race All Stars. That means we’ll likely know the final three next week, and the week after that, one of them will be the first All Stars winner crowned and the first to have their portrait hang in the RuPaul’s Drag Queen Hall of Fame.

The RuCap

At the start of the episode, the queens are talking about Latrice and Manila’s elimination and Raven and Jujubee are kicking themselves over their stint in the bottom two next to them. They vow to not land there again this week and then Ru shows up for this week’s mini-challenge.

It’s time for the library to open for the reading challenge. For those of you who don’t know, the word “reading” in the drag world means to call someone out or to criticize, usually in a humorous way. “Reading them to filth” means you did a very good job at it. So, each season, there’s a reading mini challenge and this time there’s an all-stars twist.

The contestants have to dress as cheerleaders and present their reads in the form of a cheer. This sounds more fun than it was. I couldn’t understand anything anyone was saying so I’m just going to say I prefer the spoken reading challenge. In the end, Team Yarlexis wins the mini-challenge, which will give them an advantage in the main challenge.

Speaking of the main challenge, the queens are told they have to form girls groups. They have to come up with a name, a look, the outfits and a dance routine to be lip-synced to one of RuPaul’s songs. Oh, and each team will be joined by a special guest celebrity (kind of) girl group member.

Then Ru brings out Kelly Osbourne, Kady Z (Pia Zadora’s daughter) and Jillian Williams (Vanessa Williams’ daughter). They’ll each join one of the teams based on which song the teams pick.

Team Yarlexis gets to pick first, so they choose “Cover Girl.” Their guest member will be Kelly. Team Rujubee goes with “Don’t Be Jealous of My Boogie” and is paired with Kady. Team Shad chooses  ”Glamazon” and is teamed up with Jillian.

There’s a lot of drama among the queens with this challenge. Chad is annoyed with Shannel. Raven and Jujubee are having a hard time dragging up Kady and Yara does what Yara does and goes a little off her rocker just when she’s starting to do really well in the contest.

It looks like everyone has their stuff together, so let’s head off to the runway.

Final Thoughts: This was not my favorite episode ever. I found it very boring and even the quotes kind of blew this week. That being said, I am very happy with this final four. And I think it looks like next week, it will anyone’s game as the teams are dropped and the four of them compete for the final three spot. I’m predicting a Raven/Chad/Shannel final three. But that means Jujubee would have to be eliminated and I don’t like the sound of that. Ack. At this point, it’s anyone’s game. We shall see.

As for this week, I’m glad Yarlexis is finally gone. I was really tiring of them acting like victims. I do think Yara probably deserves to still be in the race, but that just brings me back to my one criticism of this season: the teams. What a horrible idea. Aside from Santino Rice being a judge, I think the team idea is what bothers me the most. Hopefully if another All Stars season comes up, the will do more than six episodes and not touch the teams idea.

What did you say girl? (Best Quotes)

“I’m a mutherf***ing assasin, so watch out, bitch.” — Chad to Yara

“It’s only going to take one mistake to put a bitch in the bottom two.” — Chad

“Contour the f**k out of my jaw. I’ve got the jaw of a bloody bulldog.” — Kelly Osborne

“I will smack that ass for days!” — Guest judge Rosie Perez

“It reminded me of when I used to have sex with the lights on.” — Rosie Perez

Kelly Osbourne is a favorite of mine fashion-wise. She launched the Material Girl line in such a brilliant manner last year. I was excited to see she would be on this episode.

HOWEVER, while watching last night, I was bored, distracted and found myself wandering off bits at a time. It didn’t grab my attention at all. Somewhat of a flop.

I have to agree I prefer the spoken reading challenges, especially since ‘reading is fund-a-mental!’ I was also put off on the ladies makeup except for Chad; he always looks flawless even with only five minutes to get ready. Also, Vanessa Williams daughter’s name is Jillian Hervey, and she was amazing. I was only able to watch part of this episode because I had to go into work at DISH. I wasn’t sure I would make it home before the re-runs aired so I set my DISH Hopper to record this episode. There is a ton of DVR recording room so I can record the rest of the season, and season five when it premieres. I think Chad may take the win since she deserved it her season, but Jujubee is my all time favorite and she has the best one-liners of the show.
