Survivor Caramoan Premiere: Cut to 90-Minutes

Why do you think CBS cut Season 26's premiere episode?

Survivor Caramoan Premiere: Cut to 90-Minutes

The premiere of Survivor: Caramoan has been cut from 2-hours to 90-minutes – and no one really knows why.

CBS decided to chop Survivor by a half an hour and air a RERUN of The Big Bang Theory in it’s place. Doesn’t exactly make sense unless the premiere episode was lackluster or something.

From the official CBS press release:

CBS has shortened the season premiere of Survivor: Caramoan – Fans Vs. Favorites from 2 hours to 90 minutes. It will now air from 8-9:30 PM on Wednesday, February 13. Update: A Big Bang Theory repeat will air at 9:30pm.

The spring edition of SURVIVOR will feature the return of one of The Game’s greatest pairings: Fans vs. Favorites. Ten ultimate SURVIVOR fans will have the chance to prove they have what it takes when they take on 10 of their favorite players from the past.  Dropped on the exotic Caramoan Islands, the 20 castaways will be divided into two tribes of 10: “The Bikal Tribe,” made up of former players deemed favorites, and “The Gota Tribe,” comprised of ultimate fans of The Game. The Favorites may have an edge because of their experience, but they also have a big target on their backs. Meanwhile, the Fans, although inexperienced, can draw on their extensive knowledge of The Game to give them an advantage. Who will prevail when these tribes collide and the castaways vie to outwit, outplay and outlast one another for the title of Sole Survivor and the one million dollar prize?

Why do you think CBS chopped it by 30-minutes? Any theories floating around out there?

They’re probably trying to save good footage for other episodes. Either that, or they didn’t shoot enough footage to air a good 2 hours. Survivor is 26 seasons old, they wanna keep the show good.

This is a big change to be making less than a week before a new season starts. It sends a signal that the episode was not strong enough to take up two hours of air time. Unfortunately for CBS it also might give people the impression that the season as a whole is weak despite Jeff claiming it’s better than S25.

This is probably the beginning of the end for Survivor! Probst is going to be cancelled twice

Two hours of prime time is costly. Perhaps commerical purchase is down. CBS probably is trimming overhead and saving footage for their recap show that we always have to suffer through.

Ugh I hope not, but I don’t think there has been a clip show in 2 to 3 seasons at least.

Maybe they’re just making changes. Think about it Big Brother is changing their days and times. Maybe they’re just trying something out. I don’t get why everyone is freaking out, we’re only losing 30 minutes. half of that 30 minutes would be commercials anyway. Like Julmeljen said, it might be too expensive for the two hour time slot. I don’t see the end of Survivor nearing just because of the season premiere being cut off by 30 minutes.

I don’t get this. The first episode of Survivor is always 90 minutes. At least it has been the last few seasons. Who cares?
