What an insane episode 8 of Survivor this week! Everyone basically agreed to vote off Penner, but he won individual immunity and thwarted that plan. So everyone had to scramble and it came down to either Pete or Jeff Kent going home and finally, the former professional baseball player was voted off the island.
Welcome back to Survivor: Philippines. We rejoin the tribe DangRayne and Penner is pissed. Penner confronts Jeff Kent and tells him he doesn’t understand why Kent didn’t stay with him. Penner then approaches Denise and asks her if she voted for RC. She says no. Denise tells Penner RIGHT TO HIS FACE that she voted for him. I’m sorry, that’s never a smart move. When a person sticks around, if there’s any room for plausible deniability (as there would have been in this case since it was a split vote), you deny, deny, deny. Come on Denise! Get some game woman.
But Denise looks great compared to our next strategic superstar, Jeff Kent. Jeff Kent says he and Carter had to save their own ass. Jeff gave up power and authority to vote with Tandang and now he’s gonna work his way to the top. Good luck with that, moron. Does he not understand how flipping works? Not smart.
Then, post-tribal we see Penner & Skupin talking. Skupin says Penner should not throw in the towel. Trust me, I know Jonathan Penner and he is not someone who would EVER throw in the towel. And like he says, he still has a lot of fight left in him. He also tells us he has no alliances or allegiances. Everyone is equal and they are all ready to die.
Lisa says that even though everyone else wants Penner and Skupin gone, she wants to target the three no one likes Pete, Abi, & Artis. This is just the beginning of who she wants gone this episode.
Then we get another condescending (and WRONG) confessional from the one and only Jeff Kent who says Lisa is so soft and nice.
Next it’s time for the reward challenge. Another great challenge. The winner gets ribs, lemonade, and a river cruise. This was a high intensity challenge (aside from when Lisa was swimming), what a great back and forth between the two teams. But then, we have Penner and Jeff working on the puzzle. And they pull it off yet again and win for their team!!
We head back to camp with the negative half of the remaining contestants who lost the challenge and we see Abi talking to Carter about the alliance. Now was it just me or did it look like this was just blatantly in front of everyone? I couldn’t tell if it was just editing or if Skupin really was right there when she was naming everyone BUT him to be in the alliance. Well, apparently Pete is worried about Abi’s big mouth. Then we see Abi and Pete talking. Pete wants to keep Skupin around a little longer. Abi curses at him. What else is new?
Malcolm tells us this season is now good versus evil. Abi, Artis, & Pete are evil. Everyone else is good. Not 100% sure I agree with that assessment, but I’m happy to see how it plays out.
Lisa is trying to win! She wants to be with people who aren’t going to get votes over her. She said the same rules don’t apply in Survivor as in life. Wow, would you look at that? Isn’t this a woman who pre-game said she wouldn’t lie. She would stick by her Christian values and morals? Well, I’m glad she didn’t. I love Lisa. She is a badass! Tough girl. Game player. I like where this is going.
Then it was time for the immunity challenge. Jonathan Penner has never won individual immunity and up until this episode, he’s never needed it more. What a crazy close challenge! Penner dove over that line to be one of the three doing the puzzle. He looked so behind in the puzzle and then he did it!!! He pulled off a huge win! That’s my boy!!! So proud!
Everyone said anyone but Penner can win. Malcolm says Murphy’s Law meant that he would win after that.
Jeff Kent says Penner, “bought himself another 3 days of dead man walking.”
Not so fast.
Here’s where it gets crazy. Lisa tells Pete about the hidden idol. Lisa says we have to blindside Malcolm. Pete runs and tells Malcolm and then Malcolm lies his ass off. Then Malcolm starts scrambling. Says let’s vote Jeff.
Pete tells us what hard work it is to play the mastermind role. Really Pete? You are such a mastermind that you can look into people’s eyes and KNOW if they have immunity idols. Yeah, you rocked at that in this episode.
Then Jeff goes to Malcolm and says Pete. Everyone is scrambling! Malcolm is bringing his idol to tribal and may play it.
At tribal, Malcolm says he has the idol and goes so far as to pull it out and say he is DEFINITELY playing it. (Or not, but okay).
Then Jeff Probst says well is there anyone else who would like to show everyone their immunity idol? Abi says “yes, I have it.” Woah. Craziness! Then, neither one of them plays their idol!
The votes come back. One vote Abi, 4 for Pete, 5 for Jeff. Bye bye Jeff Kent.
Carter looked so dejected.
Jeff Kent makes sure to tell us he has made 60 million dollars playing baseball. I’m not going to miss him, are you?
Jeff Probst says, that vote may go down as one of the biggest blown opportunities in the history of this game. Do you think that’s true? I’m going to have to beg to differ on that one.
I hope you’ll all join me again next week for my recap of Survivor. Until then, don’t forget to check out my blog (itsjustafuckingblog.com) and follow me on twitter @eorlins (though I’m only on intermittently because of the blocks in China). Signing off for now, with scrambling, madness, & insanity, xoxo, Eliza.
