The highly anticipated and extremely grueling finale of The Challenge: Battle of The Exes kicked off with the start of the second day of the final challenge, Viking Quest. Host, Tj, woke up the final 3 couples as they slept inside of tents on top of an actual glacier in -16 degree weather. As the camera panned the vast white glacier, Tj let the final 3 couples know that they were 12 miles, 5 checkpoints and 1 mountain away from the finish line.
The ex’s had to run 2 miles in knee deep snow to get to their 3rd checkpoint. Diem and Ct were first to arrive at the Feat For A Viking checkpoint, where they had to completely eat a traditional Icelandic feast before moving on to the next checkpoint. The feast consisted of an actual cow’s head, a horn filled with sheep’s blood and sobered shark. Ct and Diem were once again the first to finish the feast and make their way to the next checkpoint. Johnny and Camilla finished the feast a couple of minutes after Ct and Diem, with Ty and Emily not far behind them.
At the 4th checkpoint, Ice Key, the ex’s had to break an ice box that contained a key that would unlock a pair of snow shoes which would make it easier for them to glide over the snow. Ct and Diem lost their lead when Ct had a very hard time locking his snow shoe into the ski. Emily and Ty were first to leave the 4th checkpoint followed by Johnny and Camilla, leaving Diem and Ct in last place. Emily managed to zoom past everyone including her partner as they made their way to the next checkpoint. For the next two miles Ty and Emily and Johnny and Camilla kept on passing each other then falling behind the other switching places between 1st and 2nd place.
Johnny and Camilla were the first couple at the 5th checkpoint, Poled Out. At this checkpoint, the ex’s had to complete a puzzle which consisted of 13 poles that formed 6 complete boundaries with each containing a boulder. The object of the puzzle was to only use 12 of the logs to create 6 complete boundaries with a boulder inside of each. Diem and Ct were the last couple to make it to the 5th checkpoint but were first to complete the puzzle and make their way to the 6th checkpoint. Once the puzzle was complete, the ex’s then had to carry the extra 40 pound log 1 mile to the next checkpoint. Both Johnny and Camilla and Ty and Emily fought with each other over their frustration of not being able to get the puzzle figured out. Johnny and Camilla figured out the puzzle long after Ct and Diem, leaving Ty and Emily in 3rd place.
At the 6th checkpoint, What An Ice Hole, the ex’s had to tunnel their way through a snow drift. At the end of the snow drift they would collect their 6th artifact. They were each given an ice pic to make their way through the snow drift. Ct and Diem made their way through the drift with no trouble and was the first couple to make their way to the 7th and final check point. Meanwhile, Ty and Emily were still struggling with the puzzle when they reached their 30 minute time limit. As Johnny and Camilla made their way through the snow drift, Ty and Emily were just getting started. Every step that Ct took in the snow, would cause his legs to sink in about 3 feet which made it very difficult for him to walk and allowed for Johnny and Camilla to catch up to him and Diem.
At the 7th and final check point the ex’s had to complete yet another puzzle that consisted of a giant 7 foot wood pole with markings on all 4 sides. The object of the puzzle was to correctly line up each side to match a model that was hidden in the snow. Johnny and Camilla once again caught up and were neck in neck with Diem and Ct as both couples constructed the puzzle. Diem and Ct figured it out before Johnny and Camilla and were the first to leave the final check point and make their way towards the finish line, while Ty and Emily were still making their way through the snow drift.
Before a winner could be crowned, the ex’s had to take their 7 Viking artifacts and correctly arrange them on a Viking sundial. Once they were correctly arranged the sundial would open revealing a horn which the ex’s had to take to the finish line and sound in order to claim the prize money. Once again Johnny and Camila were neck and neck with Diem and Ct but Diem and Ct figured out the puzzle before Johnny and Camilla. Once the couples finished the puzzle, they found out that the finish line was at the top of a mountain. Both Ct and Camilla were struggling to make their way up the mountain while their partners were ahead of them. Diem was way ahead of everyone while Johnny and Camilla both passed Ct. Meanwhile, Emily and Ty were just getting started on the sundial puzzle. Just as Diem and Johnny thought that they have reached the top of the mountain, they saw a huge volcano were the actual finish line was at. As Ct and Diem and Johnny and Camilla made their way to the finish line, all 4 competitors were literally feet from each other. Ct’s body had given out on him which caused him to fall behind and allowed Johnny and Camilla to get ahead of them.
After an intense season of nearly impossible challenges, countless injuries, several good old fashioned fights and freak outs and who knows how many hook ups, the ex’s were simply feet away from the finish line. Johnny and Camilla were the first couple to make it to the finish line and become the winners of The Challenge: Battle of the Ex’s and the $150, 000 grand prize. Diem and Ct came in 2nd place and won $100,000. Ty and Emily came in 3rd and won $40,000.
