In a strange move, Bravo announced it will be allowing fans to help shape the the way Season 9 of “Top Chef” plays out. Why is it strange? Well, because fans have no way of tasting the food of course. So who are they to judge?
Anyway, Bravo says that it has partnered with Toyota to give fans something called transmedia play.
“This marks the first time digital elements directly affect the on-air story,” Bravo’s Lisa Hsia says. “We believe this transmedia campaign will deliver a new level of interactivity our fans have never seen before.”
So, even though the details haven’t been presented very well, it seems fans will be able to take part in live voting. Apparently, in “Survivor” Redemption Island-style, eliminated cheftestants will get the chance to fight for the chance to re-enter the competition in an online-only battle called “Last Chance Kitchen.” That contest is apparently when fan votes come into play.
“Top Chef” Season 9, also known as “Top Chef Texas,” hasn’t been given an official airdate ye. And since everything’s bigger in Texas, this season’s judges panel will even be bigger. New judges Emeril Lagasse and Hugh Acheson will join regulars Tom Colicchio, Padma Lakshmi and Gail Simmons.
