Country crooner Tate Stevens was crowned the season 2 winner of X Factor Thursday night, beating out Carly Rose Sonenclar and Fifth Harmony.
13-year-old songbird Carly Rose came in second place while Simon Cowell’s self-assembled girl group Fifth Harmony finished third. Tate’s win is also a win for L.A. Reid who served as his mentor.
This win comes at a time following L.A.’s announcement that he will not be returning to the show next season. Carly’s mentor was Britney Spears. Demi Lovato was the only mentor to not have an act in the finale.
Tate, 37, is a lot older than most singing competition show winners. The husband and father from Missouri stayed at or near the top of the voting charts throughout the season along with Carly. Fifth Harmony was the underdog of the finalists, nearly going home before climbing all the way up to third place.
